Laura Caldwell (aka Whimsy) is a tattoo artist and illustrator based in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Before entering the industry, she worked as a Park Ranger and agricultural worker in her home-town of Cecil County, Maryland. After growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, she moved her life up to Pennsylvania with her now-husband at the beginning of 2022. Laura completed her traditional apprenticeships of 3 years in March 2025 — She ‘lovingly’ refers to it as her “Master’s Degree Program” after graduating with a Bachelor’s of Design & Illustration in May of ‘21 from Towson University. Laura will be pursuing a MFA in Technical Illustration and continues to pursue business courses at her local Community College.

Laura is most inspired by authors like by Tolkien, Frank Herbert, George R. Martin, & Lovecraft. Worldbuilding has become a staple in Laura’s work - attempting to make contact with the Universe that lives in us all. Often, you will find her predesigned work will focus on the Eccentric, Macabre, and of course…the Whimsy of our natural world. Music is her biggest inspiration - a lot of the time you will find her with headphones imagining the next dragon battle to illustrate. Laura ‘s love for history and philosophy often seeps into her illustrative fantasy work, bridging the two worlds.
